Brexit: New divorce deal reached between UK and EU

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Twitter the breakthrough of "a great new deal that takes back control".

"Now Parliament should get Brexit done on Saturday so we can move on to other priorities like the cost of living, the NHS, violent crime and our environmentThe European Commission said negotiators had reached "a fair and balanced agreement for the EU and the UK". EU President Jean-Claude Juncker said he would recommend the 27 EU nations to endorse the deal during their summit later Thursday.

Even if the EU collectively endorses the deal, Johnson, who theoretically holds a minority government, will need to convince enough MPs at an emergency sitting on Saturday to vote for the UK to support it. Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party has already said it remains opposed to the outline Brexit deal announced this morning.
