While much of Wingello has been left in smouldering ruin, firefighters and locals believe it’s a miracle more of the Southern Highlands town wasn’t lost.

As the bushfire roared up the hillside towards Wingello, Mr Wilson said he was forced to pull some crews back as the blaze overran them. “I’ve known Mark pretty much the whole time I’ve been out here and to know there was a fire truck literally parked in front of my vegetable garden is pretty amazing,” she said, after embracing Mr Wilson.A home at Wingello in the Southern Highlands destroyed by fire on Saturday. The 31-year-old was sitting at her brother’s home in Bowral listening to fire service radio chatter into the early hours of Sunday to try and learn whether her home was gone.

Homes and livestock decimated after bushfires rip through NSW Southern Highlands | Sky News AustraliaFamily homes and livestock have been decimated after dangerous bushfires ravaged areas in the New South Wales Southern Highlands on Sunday. \n\nThe towns of Wingello, Bundanoon and Kangaroo Valley all faced raging fires on Sunday as some residents elected to stay and fight to protect their properties while others evacuated. \n\nKangaroo Valley Resident Kristin McLennan said seeing the state of the town 'is really heartbreaking'. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia I think what is happening in Australia, from huge fires of size and quantity, I do not think it is normal, I think that there is somebody who is setting fires for a project they are planning, that what they are doing is a global crime, something very, very unfortunate. Why did the Australian government not ask for international assistance to extinguish the huge fires, that Australia is part of the planet and is considered a global wealth that must be preserved and protected, that Australia is not on Mars. vk2hml Gee is that breaking news? I think not,it’s been going on for weeks
