Eight Victorians have become ill after consuming contaminated baby spinach, with products recalled from Costco, Aldi and Woolworths.

Nearly a dozen Victorians have become ill after consuming contaminated baby spinach, with products recalled from Costco, Aldi, Woolworths and now Coles.

“People are advised not to consume certain products containing baby spinach following reported cases of food-related toxic reactions,” a Health Department spokesman said. The spinach was sold through Costco across Victoria, ACT and NSW with an expiry date from December 16 up to and including December 28, 2022.

Victorian Aldi stores also recalled their Fresh Salad Co Fresh and Fast Stir Fry with a use-by date of December 24 due to “potential contamination with unsafe plant material”.Coles became the fourth supermarket to recall its baby spinach products on Saturday. Eleven items were recalled across Victoria and other states as a precaution.

“Initial investigations are suggestive of accidental contamination of the affected baby spinach,” he said. “The Victorian Department of Health is working closely with other jurisdictions to investigate further.”
