And an astonishing 9,980 homes have been saved in NSW to date, the RFS confirmed to 9news.com.au today.In the latest impact assessment the NSW RFS reported 9980 homes have been saved from hundreds of bushfires burning around the state since the beginning of the fire season.A further 7638 outbuildings have been successfully defended including sheds and barns for animals.

In total, more than 1450 homes have been destroyed and that number is expected to rise after a catastrophic weekend for the NSW South Coast.
