Breaking: Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced strict new measures on travel from India after an alarming surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country | rachael_dexter

Australians older than 50 will get access to a coronavirus vaccination sooner than originally planned in the wake of a national cabinet meeting that also agreed on travel restrictions from India.

“Because the states and territories will be no longer providing AstraZeneca to under-50s in their clinics, that will free up more AstraZeneca to go to primary care sites,” the Prime Minister said. “Until we get more Pfizer supplies later in the year, those people who may choose not to have AstraZeneca, as the Prime Minister has always said, it is a choice,” he said.

“The government has constantly said ‘there’s no problem here, we’re going to have four million people vaccinated by the end of March’. Didn’t happen,” she told ABC’s“The Prime Minister said we would be at the front of the queue - we’re about 90th in the world in the rollout of vaccines. “We will also be limiting the departure exceptions for Australians travelling to high-risk countries.

Those who have been in a high-risk country in the previous 14 days will now need to have completed a test 72 hours before leaving their last destination.

rachael_dexter Stop all flights from India, heavy fines for anyone caught flouting red zone rules. They’re endangering us all.

rachael_dexter Should’ve happened a year ago. And for every country not just India.

rachael_dexter So that makes Scott Morrison a racist too ? Look forward to comments from leaders in NZ's Indian Community who were quick to play the race card over travel suspensions during a global pandemic health crisis as covid infections in India spiral out of control now.

rachael_dexter Good - about time we put some restrictions on India ... who knows what the real number of cases is over there. Too big a risk. No exemption for students from from there either.

rachael_dexter Omg he’s such a leader

rachael_dexter The Prime Minister of announcements and no delivery

rachael_dexter Australians aren't departing to India for fun and holidays. Most are making compassionate visits for last rites of close family members. No normal person will fork thousands of dollars for hotel quarantine unless their circumstances are extraordinary. DumbNation
