Scientists were hoping to bring about 60 grams of asteroid back to Earth to study and their plans almost went awry when their probe managed to grab almost 2 kilograms of matter in a six-second contact.

A NASA spacecraft sent to collect pristine asteroid samples has secured about 2 kilograms of material despite losing some of its precious loot because of a jammed lid, scientists say.

OSIRIS-REx started its long mission to 101955 Bennu, one of more than 500,000 known asteroids between Earth and Mars, in September 2016. But tens of grams of material were lost following the successful touch-and-go manoeuvre and again this week when the spacecraft's robot arm moved to put the samples inside the capsule.

It will be September 2023 — seven years after OSIRIS-REx launched from Cape Canaveral — before the samples arrive here.

Are we still pretending? AS IF. As if NASA landed a probe on an asteroid that will collect a sample and return to Earth. Are you all stupid enough to believe this fiction?

Fake!

Awesome achievement...the math to do this is mind blowing...in awe of NASA
