‘Murder, not policing’: Prosecutors finish case in Derek Chauvin trial | KnottMatthew

Prosecutors have concluded their case against Derek Chauvin by urging jurors to believe their “own eyes” and find the former Minneapolis police officer guilty of murder for pressing his knee into the neck of George Floyd for more than nine minutes last May, preventing the black man from breathing.

Chauvin, a 19-year police force veteran, has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of manslaughter. “You have to take into account that officers are human beings, capable of making mistakes in highly stressful situations.” Second-degree murder, the most serious of Chauvin’s three charges, requires prosecutors to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Chauvin caused Floyd’s death while committing or attempting to commit another felony – in this case, a physical assault.
