Eddie McGuire has revealed a multi-million-dollar plan to establish a 'ring of steel' around Melbourne's sporting precinct that could preserve the AFL tradition of hosting the grand final at the MCG with up to 100,000 patrons allowed to attend.

Eddie McGuire unveiled the multi-million-dollar pitch on Channel 9’s “Footy Classified” on Wednesday night where he proposed setting up a “ring of steel” around the MCG that would allow for a 100,000 strong attendance to the season finale.

"Everyone who needs to like the idea likes the idea, what is has to do is get past the Chief Health Officer and he has to tick it off, and that’s fair enough.
