Pregnant women and sleeping mothers were among the nine victims the murderer and serial rapist known as ‘‘Mr Stinky’’ targeted during a series of terrifying attacks in suburban Melbourne more than 35 years ago.
Edmunds was dubbed Mr Stinky because of the offensive body odour his victims reported, and Mr Hammill said one woman who fought with the attacker in her Wheelers Hill home remembered his "terrible strong smell". Judge Pullen said it was hard to imagine how terrifying Edmunds’ crimes must have been for his victims.
The victims also included a grandmother, then 57, who had her hands bound and was made to undress before Edmunds left the house; a 14-year-old who remembered being pushed out of bed and hitting her head and woke in hospital with stitches; and a young woman who was punched and then had a pillow put over her face and was choked.
