Opinion: Morrison’s most fatal flaw on show in flood response | Waleed Aly

“I think it is just an obvious fact,” declared the Prime Minister this week as he touredWhat a frankly astonishing admission that is. How unvarnished. It isn’t relative or euphemistic. It isn’t “Australia is being affected by climate change”, or “we’re facing more natural disasters”. It’s absolute. “Getting hard to live in” has a ring of resignation about it. It’s like given the choice, humans would really rather live somewhere else.

That, I think, captures the most confounding quirk of the Morrison government. It’s not, as its most trenchant critics charge, that it is almost always wrong. It’s that it is often right, but only after refusing to be for so long, and for no apparent reason. And nothing quite exposes that trait like the two years of rolling emergency we’re going through.

Secondly, it relented on building new quarantine facilities. Now, one is finally built in Victoria, just as we’ve stopped using quarantine altogether. In both cases, the Morrison government raged in pursuit of lost causes, and contrived to get no political credit for what it finally did. I still can’t quite figure out why.Or take the vaccine rollout. The Morrison government forecast that every Australian would have had the chance to get two COVID vaccine jabs by October.

Morrison’s explanation is that he can only do this in consultation with the relevant state premiers, who would then write to him requesting the declaration, and that they hadn’t done so. Perhaps the premiers really didn’t think it would help. Or perhaps they’ve simply not been as active as they could have been. But it also seems likely the federal government could have initiated that consultation in earnest sooner than it did, and made that plain to whole country.

I gave him a name 8th wonder

Morrosons fatal flaw will be pork barrelling disaster funds in the middle of a catastrophe. We in the floodzone will NOT let anyone forget that. auspol nswpol NSWFloods

“I don’t hold a mop.”

If it's too hard to live in Australia ScottMorrisonMP, we honestly don't mind if you permanently bunk off to another part of the world.

He just can’t hold his happy face🤬

Spot on. Surely the basis of a functioning country is a competent, caring government? If that is eroded, what’s the point? Democracy will descend into apathy and lawlessness.

Three years ago Jacinta Ardern immediately comforted and supported the people after the Mosque shootings. This sort of action is what is hoped for from a leader! Morrison is not a leader and has let down Australia and the Australian people!

Propaganda

Slomo‘s lack of timely action, capitulations and then failure to take credit are a product of his neoliberal ideology. He doesn’t want to associate himself with government interventions in the ‘market’ but eventually has to respond to neutralise political criticism.

Waleed misses the obvious point that Morrison is a dickhead, hostile to very idea of govt acting in the interest of the people. So when Morrison acts like a dickhead, Waleed is left with 'for no apparent reason', or 'I still can't quite figure out why.' It's just who he is.

Yes you are right Morrison get’s to the truth after years of walking in the opposite direction, like climate change for instance. The only problem with this is the damage has already been done and the solution ten times more desperate than had he just realised immediately

“Yes Minister” 4-Stage Strategy: 1. Nothing is about to happen 2. Something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it 3. Something is happening, but there’s nothing we CAN do 4. Maybe we could have done something, but it’s TOO LATE NOW

His absolute uselessness?

religious indifference to human suffering ? whoda thunk it

He despises government intervention. He fervently desires a very small government that does nothing. Using government resources to help the people of Australia goes against every fibre of his being. His raison d'etre has been to announce and never deliver.

Imagine if we had built quarantine facilities previously and had somewhere for those left homeless to go. Temporary accommodation available today. Maybe the Qld facility which is open can accommodate some. GutlessWonder

Morrison has failed the Australian public once again LnpFail

Seriously, Morrison deliberately hires the worst possible people for every role. There's nothing confounding about it.

The cynic in me says Morrison took 9 days to late to declare national emergency so he could do so in person and take all the kudos. That worked well didn’t it?

Until yesterday aus was the best country to live in! now he says is getting harder! I guess whatever suits Morrisons narrative!!

It’s not that it’s wrong It’s that it’s almost always right Yeah after the fact When the horse has bolted and he’s gov is the last to subscribe But yeah they never wrong What a crock of total bullshit!

Let’s just take it for granted that Aly is a thoughtless shill for the left. Good. Now let’s move on and do stuff.

Morrison’s most fatal flaw on show in flood responseThe most confounding quirk of the Morrison government is not that it’s wrong, but that it’s often right - but only after refusing to be for so long, and for no apparent reason. |OPINION by Waleed Aly auspol It's not right though. It's not climate catastrophe, it El Nina effect. Climate catastrophe nut jobs have long told us we would never get enough rain to fill our dams again, let alone floods. They keep changing their narrative everytime something occurs that has always occurred There it is again..resting smirk face ..grrrr The most fatal flaw is his ranting thoughtlessness followed by his inaction action spiced up with lies, schemes sneaks and squirms. Remember his remarks Nov 2021.
