Perspective: The Prime Minister has three predecessors, Hawke, Howard and Rudd, who - each in their way - serve as role models as leaders of consequence

Scott Morrison has been immersed in the D-Day celebrations this week. Ordinary men and women were remembered for rising to the challenge of their time and committing heroic deeds. Perhaps he could take a quiet moment to reflect on the possibilities of his own prime ministership. Newly elected, this is his moment of maximum opportunity to shape an agenda.

The economy is in trouble and about to sink. The cost of official money in Australia is now 1.25 per cent. Core inflation is 1.4 per cent. Meaning? The central bank has made money not only free, And, as Frydenberg acknowledged this week, the world is more fraught than at any time since the Cold War, thanks to the US trade war with China and global political turmoil.

A broad economic rejuvenation to unlock Australia's potential for another 30 years is an enterprise of vastly grander scale than either man has ever attempted. But Hawke and Keating showed it could be done. If not for this, Hawke would be fondly remembered as a character but not a great leader.

Al Gore pressures Morrison Government on global warmingHe may be a former US vice-president, but Al Gore stands tall among climate advocates and he's used a visit to Australia to heap pressure on the Morrison Government to take action on global warming. More accurately: Al Gore pressures Morrison Government to do SOMETHING about global warming Al Gore can piss off to wherever he came from. For $320000 I would say that as well.
