Religious leaders are closely watching the Israel Folau case in the Fair Work Commission

A senior Sydney Anglican Bishop wants Wallaby Israel Folau's unlawful dismissal test case to challenge whether workplace code of conduct agreements impinge on employees' expression of religious beliefs.

Kamal Weerakoon, moderator of the NSW Presbyterian Church said: "I am keeping tabs on it and am interested in the outcome because religion is central to our identity. Therefore if an employer tries to restrict or regulate the way that express our Christianity, that may give us problems." Bishop Stead, Sydney Anglican spokesman for religious freedom, said Folau had paraphrased the Apostle Paul from the Bible in 1 Corinthians 6, which lists various groups of sinners who will not "inherit the kingdom of God" without redemption by Jesus."It's clear that his motivation is not hate, it is actually love. I accept that some people may not perceive it as loving. But certainly his objective intention was not to incite hatred.

Josh Bornstein, national head of employment law at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers said the Fair Work Act overrides a contract or code of conduct, meaning RA cannot "contract out" of employment law which makes it unlawful to terminate employment on the basis of religion under section 772.

Folau is dishonest to himself and his employer He signed a contract took the money then uses religion as an excuse to break that contract numerous times He is a man whos word has little value.

What would happen if religious beliefs are given priority above the Law & Constitution? Will it set the precedent for other religions to claim discrimination if they're not permitted similar consideration?

Interesting what happens if the courts including the high court rule against him? Or what happens if his appeal is upheld and we are all allowed to preach via our employment. They may ultimately wish this never started.

He should win convincingly

Don’t believe everything you read u overpaid coconut u r very privileged

get religion right out of Government and the workplace - if you must be involved in that nonsense, do it privately.

I fear this country will become a Gilead Republic where the fundamentalists and Evangelicals wind back people’s rights. Praise be! Under his eye. I hope the Folau case is judged quickly as a contract violation and dismissed as a waste of the cout’s time MAGA auspol

go Israel Folau!! speak your truth! we may not agree but are 100% behind you.

Dumped Israel Folau sues Rugby Australia over 'unfair' sackingDumped Wallabies star Israel Folau has lodged an 'unlawful termination' claim against rugby's national and NSW governing bodies. Gay people are persecuted for who they love but homophobes are 'persecuted' for who they choose to openly hate. Make no mistake this isn't about wanting to express religion, which can be done lovingly, this is about wanting to express hate for LGBT+ people. Breaching code of conduct lawful dismissal for everyone else. it's sad that a good soul who cares about the world gets punished. freedom of religion should not be infringed.

Folau takes legal action against Rugby Australia'No Australian of any faith should be fired for practising their religion' 9WWOS Agreed. He was fired for a breach of contract though? Really? Is a public figure spreading hate and prejudice on a public platform really something that bosses should be cool with? He can’t possibly be that stupid. Nobody is saying he can’t practice religion - go to church, read the bible, pray your arse off. I agree but he doesn't need to make others feel like shit because of his beliefs...when his job is in the public eye relies on supporters and sponsors shit up go to church then shut up again
