Fire Rescue Victoria confirmed that firefighters were battling the blaze at the Bright Moon Buddhist Temple in Springvale at around 8pm on Sunday. "Crews were called to the place of worship in Springvale Road about 8pm and arrived to find a large multi storey building ablaze," Fire Rescue Victoria said in a statement.

"There is a large contingent of emergency services in the area and Springvale Road, Springvale South, is closed." Videos on social media showed scenes of the Bright Moon temple alight, with smoke billowing into the sky.
