Proposed changes to the national curriculum will also take references to Australia’s ‘Christian heritage’ out of civics in favour of ‘secular’ and ‘multi-faith’

‘Christian heritage’ replaced by multi-faith in civics courseFocus on different perspectives, such as contested nature of Anzac DayA proposal to give First Nations Australians’ history and culture far greater emphasis in the national curriculum and teach students that many saw settlement as invasion will test Australians’ willingness to move on from culture wars and embrace a shared understanding of the country’s future, education experts say.

They failed to recognise that “the First Peoples of Australia experienced colonisation as invasion and dispossession of land, sea and sky,” said a summary of the proposed changes to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cross-curricular priority, which is taught across key disciplines. Year 4 students will study the significance of trade to First Nations Australians, rather than a world navigator, while year 10 students will study how popular culture encouraged First Nations Australians to become provocative - citing Bangarra Dance Theatre as an example - rather than post-WWII popular culture.which told his story of disengagement from Australia’s education system, said the new content couldn’t come soon enough.

NSW has its own curriculum, which is also being reviewed. “NSW is ... working alongside ACARA to ensure that the Australian Curriculum Review process aligns with the work already underway in the NSW Curriculum Reform,” a spokeswoman for the NSW Education Standards Authority said.Changes to maths prompted debate when the proposals were revealed on Thursday. They included moving times tables from year 3 to 4, linear equations from 7 to 8, and telling the time from 1 to 2.

But the emphasis on problem-solving worried some teachers such as Greg Ashman, an advocate of direct teaching and a PhD candidate at the University of NSW. and problem-solving must be central to the new curriculum. ACARA chief executive David de Carvahlo said the changes aimed to ensure students knew the basics, but also deepen their understanding.

And include the pioneering Buddhists who arrived during the gold rushes, and the pioneering Muslims who built railways in central Australia - or we could call them people from China and from Afghanistan.

Australia is founded on a Christian heritage and there is virtually nothing taught about it. What are they going to take out? 🙄

Secular is good

Good!

Australia has always been a multi faith country since the British settlement. Many of those that came were Christians, many that came were Jewish, many were atheists. Let's keep it in perspective. Religion should been taught as a subject not dominated by any particular strand

I am very confused, so future kids should learn about colonisation of Australia and the harms done to aborigines as these are real history. On the other hand, let’s deny the Christian heritage which is also real history...errrrr

Wait what? Take it out of the consitution first you numpties.

Good move.

Australia does have a Christian heritage. That is a fact. History should not fabricate or lie about facts. I am not a Christian myself. If we said that East Timor was not one skerrick affected by Portuguese culture that would be lying. Madness of North Korean ilk is infecting us!

2 - TIL that Anzac day is contested... Why?

Fact: Australia has a white, Christian heritage. This is the reason, that in only a short amount of years, became such a desirable place to immigrate to. This is not racist, thai is simply the truth, why change history?

Dark Mofo to work with Aboriginal artists in the future following First Nations blood backlashHobart's Dark Mofo festival will work to better include Aboriginal artists at future events after copping a backlash over a piece that proposed soaking a British flag in the blood of Indigenous people. Good. Sensationaling an important topic only forces people to extreme views, this is something we need to come together with.

World records as many cases in one week as first five months of pandemicThe pictures tell one side of the world’s struggle against COVID-19, with images of patients dying outside hospitals, and crematoriums and graveyards full, with no more room for the dead. UK is relaxing all restrictions over the next few weeks and things will be back to pre covid days. Indoor, outdoor and foreign holidays. Australia and New Zealand are on our green list for travel even though you won't let us in. I expect our cases will rocket soon Covid still raging out of control across the world. It's just so sad and frightening 💔🙏🏽
