As wars rage abroad, senior Labor frontbencher Pat Conroy and shadow defence minister Andrew Hastie have exchanged blows regarding the government’s defence strategy.

on Wednesday, tensions flared as the two politicians clashed over future plans for the Australian Defence Force .Mr Conroy, the Defence Industry Minister, spoke to Sky News Australia following the announcement and declared it “the single biggest increase as a percentage of GDP since the Korean War” in dollar terms.

Despite these assertions, shadow defence minister Mr Hastie retorted with a scathing critique of the plan when he spoke to Sky News Australia later on Wednesday.“This is a weak showing from a weak defence minister and I think it's a great concern,” he said.

Mr Hastie insisted the Coalition would boost defence spending beyond the current and planned levels under the Albanese government.
