Senior mining executives are set to hold emergency talks with unions and industry bodies in Brisbane, with safety considerations at the top of the agenda. The group will consider whether to shutdown mines across Queensland following six worksite deaths in just 12 months.

It has been revealed that despite the recent spate of deaths, the crucial committee that oversees safety in coal mining hasn't met since March, because it failed to meet its gender quota. The Palaszczuk government is now under pressure to explain the delay. Image: Getty
