Cash-strapped Australians have been warned more cost-of-living pain is in sight after Telstra flagged a price increase for its phone plans. 7NEWS

New and pre-existing customers will notice the increase on their phone bills from July 1, with the telco giant explaining the prices “will increase in line with the Consumer Price Index”.jumped to its highest point in two decadesIt flagged more price pain was to come, saying “plan pricing will include an annual review and may increase annually”.All three of the company’s mobile plans are jumping in price, but Telstra justifies the hike by saying it is “adding more value” to the plans.

The “small” option, now called “basic”, has been bumped by $3 per month, but will include 5G for the first time. Customers on the “medium” and “large” plans also face a $3 and $4 respective price hike per month when they swap to the new “essential” and “premium” plan options, which offer an extra 100GB and 180GB, depending on the plan.

Telstra said mobile broadband and home internet plans were not changing at this stage, but broadband prices would now include an annual review. It comes as millions of Aussies face mounting living expenses, after the country’s energy regulator announced that households would see significant increases in bills from July 1.
