V/Line chief tells IBAC cash payments came from secret 'gambling syndicate'

The fleet manager at Metro Trains has admitted to accepting roughly $150,000 in corrupt cash payments from the director of a cleaning company, during today's hearing of the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission .Fleet manager Peter Bollas admitted the monthly payments were received in return for assisting the company contracted to clean trams and trains

Peter Bollas told the commission he took monthly payments of up to $10,000 from George Haritos, the co-owner of Transclean. However, this afternoon Mr Bollas told the inquiry he was never in a gambling syndicate with the two men. The commission was shown a chart of showing the alleged financial transfers between Mr Pinder and his associates.IBAC tapped the secret phones of the three men — Mr Pinder, Mr Bollas, and Mr Haritos — as part of its investigation.

In another more heated call, Mr Pinder and Mr Bollas discussed the need to seek cash returns from the Transclean boss in exchange for the substantial cleaning work he had been given in Government contracts during the pandemic."I know the number, I can negotiate — you've only got to tell me the number.""What was that in reference to?" Mr Lawrie asked at the hearing."And that was what you thought was reasonable?" commissioner Robert Redlich asked.
