Paul Izzo has overcome injury and disappointment to lead Melbourne Victory to the verge of an improbable A-League Men’s championship trophy but they will have to overcome his former club Central Coast Mariners to claim the title on Saturday night.

Paul Izzo has been ever-present for Melbourne Victory this season and one item has been close at hand for the whole campaign.

Izzo’s 10 career penalty saves are the most in the A-League Men in Opta’s records, which only go back to 2012-2013. “My phone is always ready and I’ll answer the call,” Izzo said. “But I’ll need to know when I’m needed as I’m getting married in June. I’ll definitely answer the call , he won’t have to deal with me.”
