Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the vote for the National Party leadership came down to one vote despite Michael McCormack declaring the result of the party room ballot would “never be known”.

Mr Clennell said the figure was put to him by two different sources within the Nationals but urged the party to formally release the figures to draw a line in

the sand. “If it’s a secret ballot how can you prove it either way?” he said. “Two different sources have told me 11-10 … One is [on the Joyce side] and one isn’t.”

TheRealPBarry Maybe so, maybe not. But in whose interest is it to push the line that there was only a one vote difference? Not McCormack's, I'd suggest.

Contenders for positions of political leadership could do well to heed the advice of the late Barry Cohen MP. The only person you can trust in a leadership ballot is the one who looks you right in the eye and tells you that their vote will go to your opponent.
