The decision to sell the Matildas’ purple goalkeeper top has proven to be very wise and a massive hit with fans. On Thursday morning the Matildas announced the re-stock of the jerseys would go on sale 10am AEST. “Stock is limited and a further re-stock will happen in the coming months,” the Matildas official social media account warned. And about an hour after they went on sale, the account informed disappointed fans that the guernseys were totally gone.
Arnold became a national icon with her heroics during the incredible penalty shootout win against France as she helped Australia advance to World Cup semi-final against England. Fans were stunned by Nike’s decision and told the company at the time they would “fly off the shelves” following her brilliant performance. “So Nike when do we get goalie jerseys because I just know Mackenzie Arnold’s black kit would fly off the shelves after that match,” one person asked at the time.
