The Matildas have called up an 18-year-old debutant after senior defender Laura Alleway suffered a World Cup-ending injury, but the players are still confident they can be secure at the back.

She has been replaced by Young Matilda Karly Roestbakken, 18, who is making her debut in the senior national squad.

The loss of such experience is a particular blow for a team whose backline was already under scrutiny in the lead-up to this World Cup. The Matildas have conceded eight goals and scored three in their past two matches, against the United States and the Netherlands."But we're not concerned about it. They're just friendly matches, and the World Cup is so different. On paper, the Matildas are still the more favoured team going into tomorrow's match against Italy.
