The carnage occurred on Zhengxin Huanghe bridge, which is a major overpass across the Yellow River, connecting Zhengzhou and the neighbouring city of Xinxiang.

Shocking footage posted to social media shows the multi-lane bridge strewn with cars, vans and trucks piled on top of each other. Other videos filmed from the ground show the extent of the impact, with some vehicle's pictured with their bumpers completely torn off.
