Ron Austin, a gay rights activist who had a major role in the beginnings of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras dies at the age of 90 — prompting loving tributes.

The crowd marched on Kings Cross police station in protest and were swooped on by officers.

Fifty-three people were arrested after police blocked the dispersing crowd and some of those were severely beaten. Ken Davis, a 78er, said:"You could hear them in Darlinghurst police station being beaten up and crying out from pain." "The night had gone from nerve-wracking to exhilarating to traumatic all in the space of a few hours."In the aftermath, the Sydney Morning Herald published the names, addresses and occupations of all those arrested, causing some to lose their jobs, accommodation, and causing family rifts.A lot has changed in the 40 years since Mr Austin had his kernel of an idea.

Police now proudly take part in the parade, and parents take their children along — same-sex marriage is legal and homosexuality is no longer a crime.

Ron was delightful man - powerfully intelligent, charming and charismatic - and a deeply attractive human being. Glad to have met him and become friends

Has the the Sydney Morning Herald ever apologised for this proto-doxing? smh 'In the aftermath, the Sydney Morning Herald published the names, addresses and occupations of all those arrested, causing some to lose their jobs, accommodation, and causing family rifts.'

We asked voters about the 'S' word and even if they support it, they don't all know what it isANALYSIS: We asked voters about the 'S' word and even if they support it, they don't all know what it is I wish these people would take some history lessons. So many have died under the socialist banner it's ridiculous. It never works, ever... the most successful countries are a mixture of socialism and capitalism, a pure version of either is simply not a good idea. This article is biased and ridiculous and is not analysis. Did the survey also ask people to define capitalism? Speak of why particular segments of the community turn to capitalism? There’s a dark warning tone over this that reads like something from the 1960s. A mix. Banks ,Energy, Health,Transport, Aged Care, Education etc need be not for profit ie. for common good. Capitalism ie free market needs strong regulation to stop monopolies, duopolies & price gouging.
