Mandatory respectful workplace training this year for federal ministers | katinacurtis

Federal ministers will be required to receive training on recognising and responding to sexual harassment and bullying before the end of the year and other politicians will be encouraged to take part, with their attendance recorded in a public register.

Senior public servant Stephanie Foster has recommended an independent body be set up to deal with serious incidents in parliamentary workplaces. The changes proposed by Stephanie Foster, deputy secretary of the Prime Minister’s department, come from her review of the parliamentary workplace after former Liberal stafferMs Higgins was pleased to hear all the recommendations would be acted on.

Mr Morrison and Finance Minister Simon Birmingham said on Monday the training would be compulsory for all Coalition ministers and government staffers. Other politicians and staff will be expected to do the training but it isn’t mandated.
