A man who expressed his love for his community support worker in the months before he stabbed her to death was not of sound mind when the incident occurred at his Rockingham home, the WA Supreme Court has heard.
The hospital notes included that he had a history of assaulting staff and family and that he "was not for home visits in the community".Mr Nicholls said Ms Francis worked as a mental health support worker for Neami National and Mr Smith became her client when he attended the organisation in February 2018, after seeing a presentation by her at a mental health facility.
Mr Nicholls said Mr Smith appeared to understand and be fine about it, but in the days before the stabbing failed to attend a group session and left another after saying he "wasn't travelling well". As a recipient of this kind of service I am deeply disturbed by this story. I hope this man receives some kind of punishment and is not released back into the community. Very sad.
Mental health facilities for patients requiring mental health treatment. Jail for people who kills others. A specific mental health jail for those claiming 'not of sound mind,' killers. Mental health is complex, but murder still requires a punishment.

We really need to put some money in mental health facilities and mental health workers. These psychiatrist and ill equipped and some are easily manipulated. These could have been easily avoided, the guy showed you he was psychotic, but, psychiatrist said he was low risk smh.
So he stabbed her to death to punish her for rejecting him even though his advances were inappropriate. How hard is it to write an accurate fucking headline?!
