Man who died in airbag malfunction would have been quadriplegic if he survived, inquest told | gmitch_news

A man would have been left quadriplegic if he survived a minor car crash where a defective airbag shot metal shrapnel into his neck, an inquest has been told.

Dr Raleigh said he formed the view the metal object entered the front of Mr Ngo's neck and hit his vertebrae, leaving several of the bones "no longer intact".Counsel assisting David Kell, SC, asked what an injury of that type usually means if someone survives. He said officers examined the scene after seeing Mr Ngo's injury and noticed no damage to his car's windscreen or windows, meaning whatever hit him must have come from inside the car.
