A young man was shot in the chest in a drive-by attack near the Gold Coast’s party precinct overnight.
Detectives believe three men were walking along Ferny Avenue in Surfers Paradise about 4.30am on Saturday when an unknown number of gunshots were fired from a passing vehicle. A 20-year-old Brisbane man was hit in the chest and specialist trauma paramedics rushed him to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition. His wound was not considered life-threatening.
Nobody else was injured in the shooting, which occurred near the junction with Cavill Avenue – home of Surfers Paradise’s major nightclubs and bars.A crime scene has been established on Gold Coast Highway between Ferny and Cavill avenues, with the area remaining closed on Saturday. Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them via a local police station or through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
