ABF calls for power to seize property after man caught with child pornography | Sky News AustraliaA Finnish man in an Australian immigration detention centre is facing deportation after he was found with 6,000 images of child exploitation on his mobile phone, reinforcing a push to grant border force officers powers to seize detainees’ property. \n\nImmigration Minister Alan Tudge told Sky News a bill was presented to the Parliament for a second time on the matter, after previously being blocked by the Labor Party and the Greens. \n\n“[The bill] would enable the Australian border force to have the discretion to search and seize mobile phones and drugs,” he said. \n\nUnder current laws, ABF officers were not permitted to search or seize detainees' property suspected to contain or be used for illegal purposes, such as the dissemination of explicit materials or illicit drugs. \n\nMr Tudge highlighted another instance where officers were unable to seize the phone a detainee was using to contact the victim of a person he had previously abused. \n\n“We must have the power to be able to seize those mobile phones off those individuals where the health and safety of either community or other detainees is put at risk.” \n\n“It will be used in a discretionary bases, it will be used carefully.\n\n“What other evidence do we need … for goodness sake, Labor and the Greens get on board so we can get this legislation through.” \n\nImage: News Corp Australia Que tal el malparido!!!! They clearly had the enough power to find the images.. Its time to stop this increasing erosion of personal rights by what seems related to hidden motives from an increasingly tyrannical political class. This really doesn't add up. If they didn't have the legal authority to remove his phone and examine its contents how did they have access to the contents of his phone.
