NSW police say a man was four times over the legal alcohol limit when he drove faster than 200km/h in a bid to evade police. 9News

A driver reached speeds in excess of 200km/h while he was more than four times over the legal blood-alcohol limit in mid-north NSW, police say.

The 31-year-old man was driving a BMW coupe at 161km/h in an 80km/h zone at Rainbow Beach near Kempsey yesterday afternoon, police say. Police began a pursuit and the driver allegedly surpassed the 200km/h mark in a bid to escape capture. He evaded police but was later arrested after abandoning the car and running across nearby farmland, police say.The Taree man was charged with numerous driving offences including speeding, high-range drink-driving and evading police.
