A 22-year-old man is in hospital with head and brain injuries after he was punched in the face and knocked to the ground in Sydney's CBD.

A 20-year-old man has been charged with reckless grievous bodily harm after the assault at St Andrews Square on Saturday night.He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital in a critical but stable condition with injuries to his head and brain, and dental injuries.
