A man has been charged with manslaughter over the death of a newborn baby in Bankstown six years ago. 7NEWS

Police said following further inquiries, a 61-year-old man was arrested on Monday morning at Bankstown Police station.

The man was arrested and charged with manslaughter by criminal negligence and cause grievous bodily harm by negligent act or omission. It will be alleged in court the man failed to adhere to the Australian standards when certifying oxygen connections within the neonatal medical gas outlet at the hospital.
