A man has died after being hit by a cyclist in Brisbane’s CBD. The 72-year-old man was walking on the Bicentennial Bikeway near Queens Wharf Rd about 8.45am on Monday when he was struck by the bicycle. He was treated by paramedics at the scene for critical head injuries. He was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and died there on Wednesday.
The cyclist, a 57-year-old Moorooka man, escaped with minor injuries. Police have launched a forensic crash investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident has been urged to contact police if they haven’t already done so. Bicentennial Bikeway is described by Queensland government as a 4.8km off-road bikeway that enables “safe walking, bike riding and scooting for people of all ages and abilities”. The bikeway runs along Brisbane River from Toowong to the Brisbane CBD.
