A man and a child have been rescued in a major air and sea operation after their boat overturned on a fishing trip in South Australia, however, three people remain missing.

Police were alerted on Monday about 8:30pm that five people who earlier in the day went on a fishing trip from Port Lincoln had failed to return home.
