Premier Jeremy Rockliff has declared a 'historic fourth consecutive win for the Liberal Party' in the Tasmanian election after Sky News Australia projected a hung parliament.

'Tasmanians have not voted for a change of government': Liberal Premier Jeremy Rockliff reacts to 'historic' election result, urges parliament to 'put aside our differences'

Mr Rockliff's Liberals, however, will be the largest party in parliament, with Sky News projecting 15 seats to Labor's 10. The Premier had been forced into the minority government following the departure of now-independents Lara Alexander and John Tucker back in May 2023. Mr Rockliff dashed the hopes of Labor forming government, stating the opposition had not won enough seats.

“To every Tasmanian, it is incumbent upon the new parliament to work together, to put aside our differences to ensure that we work day in day out for Tasmanians right across this beautiful state.Labor Senator Helen Polley, who was part of Sky News Australia's expert election panel, earlier on Saturday night declared the poll was a"waste".
