Self-testing kits for coronavirus are being advertised in Australia via Chinese social media platform WeChat, but they are illegal and doctors have warned that there are significant risks.

"I have a lot of people that have asked me about the products [after I posted the advertisement]," he said.

"The supply of self-tests or at-home tests for most serious infectious diseases, including self-tests for COVID-19, is prohibited under the Therapeutic Goods Specification 2010," a Department of Health spokesperson told the ABC. "The TGA has and will continue to encourage reporting of potential non-compliance via the TGA website for investigation and action."

The spokesperson added that Australia required"testing for serious infectious diseases to be conducted in conjunction with a healthcare professional who can provide appropriate advice and treatment if required".

Legality isn't a concern I'd be raising, test accuracy would be a far more significant one.

Another scam. Why selling from China and not confirm medical institutions ? But there with be plenty naive for this. So far only some hospitals have quick checks and they not selling

The bigger question is 'Do they work?'

Announcement imminent on a cheap testing kit $1.50 per kit to Gov ( been tested for weeks now) should be coming next week. Only trust the official ones issued or backed by Health Department
