'I bought my first property when I was 17.' 9News

A caller to Sydney's 2GB has revealed he owns almost 300 rental properties as he argued against a political call to freeze rents for two years amid Australia's current cost-of-living crisis., a caller known only as "David" said the he owns 283 rental properties, but defended himself saying he bought his first one when he was just 17."I bought my first property when I was 17 and my mother had to sign the paperwork because in those days you had to be 21.

He said he always aims to be fair with his renters and if he's "happy with a tenant, he will modify [the rent] as much as he can" afford to.The Greens are calling for a two-year freeze on rents to help Australia's cost-of-living crisis. "The thing that people must remember...when you work, you have a super. A super pays about nine and a half per cent," he continued.David claims he paid the Queensland government "nearly $7,000 a property per year, in land tax".

Thus, he suggests if the government do initiate a freeze for renters, the local, state and federal politicians should also freeze their incomes to make it fair. Rental freezes have occurred in the past with the Menzies government introducing similar bans in the 1940s.instigated a freeze in 2020, when the state was suffering from Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns.

well done he has worked for it, isn’t that what we should all strive for instead of whinging because someone has succeeded – people want everything for nothing and are not prepared to put in the hard yards – this guy obviously did – good on him

Arse...

He says Super has an average return of 10% and he only gets 3.2%. So why doesn't he sell up and invest in super instead?

9NewsMelb bloke takes in over $100k a week probably. fair play

Look at all your poor people whinging about capitalism 😂 get off your ass and work for it, maybe then you'll be able to escape the rat race as well. Probably not though

Even billionaires don't have 300 houses .. it would take 4 lifetimes for one person to accumulate 300 houses .

9NewsAdel David who? Its just a program director from the same studio to make a story.

9NewsQueensland Unverified source making outrageous ownership claim that would put him on the rich list. Sounds legit. Our next caller is Paul. Paul you’ve circumnavigated Australia in a coffee cup?

I wonder how many potential Developments that Greens Member has protested at and stopped housing being built.

9NewsQueensland That should be illegal-

Capitalist pig!

At a very conservative $200 a week rent, each, 10 should be plenty, more than likely rent is at least $300 at week. With 300 properties $200/week that would be 3.1 million.

For sure, let’s not freeze the rent because David has 283 properties. After all, the whole nation needs to understand David’s struggle.

With drug money or illicit overseas money.
