Australia's two major political parties are engaged in debate over mandatory minimum sentences for child sex abusers.

Australia's two major political parties are engaged in debate over mandatory minimum sentences for child sex abusers. With the support of the Greens in the Senate, the Opposition voted down mandatory minimum sentences of between five to seven years for child abusers.

Mandatory sentencing goes against Labor’s national platform, with Labor Senator Murray Watt arguing it actually made it harder to prosecute criminals. Labor eventually conceded it would support the bill after the government said it wouldn’t accept the ALP's proposed changes. Image: Getty

just put them in mix jail - their new roommates will figure out

Only one cure for pedophilia! Children Lives Matter.

The minimum should be death.

Cut Their Bloody Willies OFF

Children the most vulnerable and least protected In society 💗 wow this world can be cruel!! Skynews you need to expose the 'child safety system', 'family courts' aswell as the 'child protection police' all 3 do not work for the children's safety and protection. Deliberate fail.

Castration Or death for any pedo!! You touch a child or intent to touch a child you should be hung!

Pedophiles try and run the world. Why was the Epstein connections never investigated?

'Labor with the support of the Greens'- just about sums it up, Labor are willing to put young lives at risk, just to support their mates in the Green Pedo party. Obviously ' Young lives DON'T MATTER

Any form of child abuse should be delt with harshly!

I'd rather see jail time for judges that let crims out early who then hurt or kill someone being the crim was released early. Make the judge spend the rest of the crim's time in jail! abcnews sbsnews smh australian

The left have always been perverse, leading the way for legalising sexual immorality - hence gay marriage. Why are people surprised that the Labour Party are in the early stages of legalising pedophilia? They are anti God. They are however pro communist and pro Islam.

BevPerth For 3 bloody years the pedo's in labor have stopped this going through - go figure

While they are at it ,they can remove the 80yr classification of the files of those in politics involved in child sex cases too!

FrontierAviator Debating..... ? Really ! Geez it must be hard to decide what to do with someone who kills one of our most precious & innocent.... the animals deserve life, never to be released.

They need to go away for life and have no protection for them. let the parents of the children beat the crap out of them as well!

ChildrensLivesMatter

Did any of you bother to read the article? 'Mandatory sentencing goes against Labor’s national platform Labor eventually conceded it would support the bill after the government said it wouldn’t accept the ALP's proposed changes.' But please keep feeding your preconceived ideas

Who is looking after the children

Labor will continue to support child rapists.

WTF? This is a lay down misre! Harsh deterrents and mandatory sentencing to take away the decision from our pathetic weak gutted Judges is the only way to get serious and fix this shit! ALP get on board or you soft c$&?! will never get my vote again!

Yeah castration is the way to go. With a chainsaw

Minimum mandatory sentences of 5-7 years? Oh, that’ll teach the pedophiles, right? Don’t worry about the person who has had their life changed forever, let’s make it fair on the perpetrators. Politicians are putrid.

Why is these being debated in the Senate when it is a state issue. Canberra can pass it, but it's just grandstanding, because paedophiles are charged under state law not federal. Liberal Party wasting parliaments time on stunts not legislation.

Labor tries to block mandatory minimum sentences for child abusers

Labor are a disgrace for blocking this

gogetsmarthome What is there possibly to debate, when it comes to the heinous act of child sex abuse There may not even be any visible physical scars; but the mental, emotional, & spiritual scars affect the child, throughout their lifetime. Impairing their mental, social, & emotional growth!

Labor are filth

Did any of u guys read the article it says they are against it because it makes it harder to get convictions in the first place and voted against it to make amendments. Typical labor bashing by sky news

Typical labour

The usual suspects siding with the criminals.

Wonder why

The LNP One Nation coalition probably won't want any mandatory minimum sentences to protect their friends in religious organisations. Pell Priests Paedophilia

I'd be quite happy for the death penalty for them, that will ensure they do not do it again. And for those who say it is no deterrent, I say it can't possibly be an incentive you morons !

How about 20 years

Labor has a history of protecting pedophiles.

Why does the left protect child abusers ? Real crimes and suffering. Not imaginary victims like most of their other causes

oz_jacko

Pedophiles should be hung or shot...simple.

If it wasnt for the degenerate left, there wouldnt be a need for debate.

WTF?! How is this even a talking point? Cut their dicks off!

Too many labtard mates will go away. They’ll shut this down with the help of the greens.

Absolutely disgusting. Labor have lost the plot. 😡😡😡😡😡

How is this even a debate?

So ... a fifteen year old who has an image of his fifteen year old girlfriend, should receive the same mandatory sentence as an adult abuser? this is more complex than the obvious ...

Bloody disgrace! Poor children! Get rid of this corrupt, disturbed, evil government now!!!

This is an easy one: Life should be the minimum sentence

Should introduce caning like in Singapore, it's effective.

About time

Does that surprise you. Pedophiles get away with things because they are often behind the scenes support by those in office.

And no protection. They need to be placed in the general prison population. This will give them a good understanding of what living with predators is like

There are even 'suppression orders', blocking the allegations of pedo's, from even being able to be investigated!

This is sick and disgusting, that they would vote to protect paedophiles and not vote to protect children, and have justice prevail. Every single last of one them, must be voted out. Stop defending paedophiles. Protect & Save The Children!

How we exist at all with our stupid politicians and policies. God help us from these idiots who can't even agree on a decent sentence for child sex abuse.

Who in their right minds, would vote to protect Paedophiles, and not protect Children properly, by having paedophiles, that are convicted & proven guilty, mandatory sentenced. Vote anyone out, that votes for paedophiles, and votes against Children!!

What a surprise -Greens/Labor OPENLY DEFENDING Pedophiles...

A debate ? A mass debate more likely. AustralianLabor LiberalAus Greens OneNationAus

Ha! Greens & Labor for leniency for kiddy-diddling

Says so much about Labor and its views on child sex abuse, and also its views on the church. Do you see the difference?

What would be an argument against this?

Life no other option or castration

Labor is fighting it because they are the pedos

The Greens will vote for NO JAIL TIME it's rife in their partyroom as seen by charges laid last week and more to follow for other members.

Labor not on the kids side

I can think of a cheap, reusable, and permanent solution for child sex abusers. you even can pick some up from your local bunnings.

What about terrorists?

This shouldn’t even be a debate, it’s life in jail with no possibility of parole. Once an abuser, always will be

That tells you a lot

Seriously why would you even debate this? Just pick a number between 50-100.
