Labor to accuse government of a 'cancer of complacency' on economy auspol | swrighteconomy

Labor will accuse the Morrison government of putting the nation at risk from a "cancer of complacency" ahead of a series of addresses by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg to reassure consumers over the state of the economy amid record low interest rates and stalling wages.

Shadow treasurer Jim Chalmers will use a major address on Monday to argue the government is a"cancer of complacency" in its management of the economy.Last week the Reserve Bank again downgraded wage and economic growth forecasts for this year. Despite interest rates being at a record low 0.75 per cent, the bank now believes it is unlikely wages growth will accelerate over the next two years and will remain around 2.3 per cent.

He will signal a co-operative approach in stark contrast to the "top end of town" rhetoric employed by former leader Bill Shorten ahead of this year's election. Treasurer Josh Frydenberg is planning a series of speeches to outline the strengths of the economy and the challenges ahead. The Treasurer, however, will use his own series of addresses over the next few weeks to highlight what he will argue are the economy's current strengths now and in the near future.

swrighteconomy That's a laugh

swrighteconomy Ho hum...

swrighteconomy think of a better way to word your point

swrighteconomy All the LNP is interested in is having a surplus no matter what cost to farmers, pensioners, welfare recipients the environment or the economy

swrighteconomy RBA too focused on ensuring the banks got a free kick. Ridiculously cutting interests 3 times to preserve impairments on Bank balance sheets has consequences far greater then one feared. Confidence lost, revenue slashed from savings, we see a dire effect on the street economy.

swrighteconomy How about a cancer of complacency on the environment?!

swrighteconomy Peter Costello: Our economy, with 5.3% unemployment, a record number of people in work & a workforce participation record high, with inflation at 1.6%, Trade surplus, a balanced budget is by those objective indicators a good economy We dodged a bullet

swrighteconomy Labor is the 'cancer'

swrighteconomy Good-looking dude.

swrighteconomy Its the SMH- try decent journalism by comparison with world economics. Good grief no wonder you are going broke!

Govt standing slips in latest Newspoll | Sky News AustraliaThe government and Labor are on an equal footing for the first time since the May election, as the Coalition's popular support tumbles.\n\nAn exclusive Newspoll published in the Australian had the major parties tied with a 50-50 share of the two-party-preferred vote as Scott Morrison grapples with the drought and a flattening economy.\n\nDespite the release of Labor's internal review into its election loss, its primary vote rose two points to 35 per cent.\n\nThe Coalition's primary vote slipped by two points to 40 per cent — its lowest since before the election - with Mr Morrison seeing a narrow improvement in his personal numbers.\n\nImage: Getty Wow! People are still reading Newspoll. Reminder: a minority of Australian voters actually voted for this government. The LNP should reasonably view 50% TPP as a good result. Well Labor needs to be watching and learning, so that if it takes power it reflects the will of the people not that of those that fund it.
