'Catastrophic' fire danger: What you need to know | rachel_rasker

has been declared across Sydney and its surrounds on Tuesday, but what does that actually mean for residents?The NSW Rural Fire Service advises that in catastrophic fire conditions:

You should leave bush fire prone areas the night before or early in the day – do not just wait and see what happens; Make a decision about when you will leave, where you will go, how you will get there and when you will return;What does it mean when a 'state of emergency' is declared?NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian declared a state of emergency on Monday, granting emergency powers to the RFS commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons.

Order the shutdown of essential utilities in the declared area including electricity, gas, oil and water; andA wave of hot, dry and windy weather will elevate fire danger ratings across multiple states and territories during the next three days.While extreme conditions are forecast across virtually all of eastern NSW, some homes are particularly at risk.
