In an attempt to tackle obesity in Australia, Labor plans to control how Australian food is made. 9News

Ms King replied the government and food industry had previously successfully worked together on targets to reduce salt, sugar and fat."We'll have a look at mandating. At this stage, it's not necessarily something we'd do straight away but we want to work with the industry on that."Ms King said no timeframe had been set on when mandatory measures would be introduced, and the changes wouldn't apply to all products.

Mr Hunt accused the Shadow Health Minister of backing away from the policy, which was first announced this morning in a press release. "They're making a proposal for a mandatory system which they announced this morning, and by lunch time, it's collapsed."

Good luck on that ! How about paying for the sleeve operation for obesity patients ,

You mean, Labor has a policy to improve food so that we don't have massive obesity problems due to poor fast food diets? You can try to be positive.

standup fuckme pisspoor useless

Won’t make a difference- the issue in this country is laziness and lack of exercise.

They're trying to control what we drive, our children and now what we eat. Punish everybody else for the poor lifestyle choices of a few, that's the way of the 'socialist' Labor government.

Yea good luck with that 😏😏

Previous Labor policy gems such as Fuel Watch and Grocery Watch were stunning successes. Surely 'Fat Watch' will turn out the same way!

Maybe bill should be thinking about running the country instead of our lives.

Maybe they can make us wear special colored clothing that identifies our status in society. Just a thought?

You think the US mega pharmas will stop HFCS or aspartame from our shelves? Obesity is an industry controlled by big pharma, from the chem to the food to the maintenance of the newly infected body to the medication for diabetics. It's a trillion dollar cycle.

UNagrnda21 UNagenda2030

Won’t be a problem when there is no food left on the shelves in the supermarkets.

Shut down all the takeaway stores and put in out door gyms 😉

Problem is a generation has grown up on cheap and convenient junk food. $1 cokes and $2.50 water says it all.......

The politics of control. How about giving us our freedom back.

That is not going to help but be a waste of money because of portion control!!!!!

Maté Bill is god he fix and create all again ?now attacking what we eat well done mr bill to be fix follow list electricity prices , water, pensions. Roads, public health hospitals , transport, inmigration, bullshit politician and dishonest one fix this and I vote for you

I don’t believe this is about controlling what we eat. I think it’s more about tighter restraints on the food industry that keeps adding more sugar and additives to their food.

If only she had been able to get some food made in a different way. ....mmmm Or... made half way could have helped ?

billshortenmp you cannot control what people eat Australia is becoming a nanny state but people do need educating on the foods that they are putting in their mouth MC Donald's & KFC are the worst to ever come to Australia people live there

Obesity is the individual probldm like my self who needs to change what i put in my mouth not what a goverment who would waste tax payer money on this ridiculous idea how about introducing more physical and education to the young would be smarter

...and distributed....

Problem : obesity Labor’s answer: Let them eat cake. How did that go last time those words were uttered?

How about fatties take responsibility for what they shove in their mouths.

Why? Isn’t it the responsibility of the individual to insure they properly?

these fat bastards need to take control of their lives - it is not a lost cause.

Shorten & the Labor Party are under the direct control of the UNIONS esp the CMFEU & will do everything they are told to do they will destroy small business with their aim for HUGE pay increases & LESS working hours, unemployment is very low but as wages increase jobs have to go

If a Labor government intervenes to address obesity, we’ll end up fatter than ever before and with a huge debt to show for it. No thanks. AusVotes

How about teaching people about eating healthier, not control what we canand can't eat. A Nanny Ssate won't do any good

Government that wants to control what you eat, drink or do is not a government I want in Australia.

multioptioned 9NEWS let people make their own fucking choices

No, provide free lap banding and free outdoor group gym and trainers. Need motivation. billshortenmp Y7News 10NewsFirst obesity

Shorten is already planning on how many Big Macs we can eat per day. Health clubs will be free as will child care You can’t trust Bill Shorten!

This is what Socialism. Fascism and any form of Communism will get you.

They, any political party should stay the hell out of kitchens.

Just when you think you've heard it all! Labour is going to make me thin! Yay

Free Big Macs for everyone

Socialism at its worst 😡

Here we go. Bill to open our borders and tell us what we should be eating. If he gets power should we call him dictator instead of prime minster?

Less Goverment stop controlling people

It's been tried here in the UK but many feel it's becoming the Nanny State and people will lose weight when they're good and ready despite the health problems that will come their way if they don't. Also hasn't really worked in the U.S either.

When it's cheaper to eat crap food than healthy........

Rubbish again,

Are they going to control how much people eat? This is ridiculous, it’s like putting less nicotine in cigarettes to try and stamp out cancer. Another useless idea Labor. putlaborlast

Sugar tax?

The Australian Labor Party (ALP) & the Greens Party solution to overweight people is 🎉🎉 Soylent Green‼️ It literally encapsulates the Greens philosophy of ‘We Eat Our Own’.

Of course they are: pure socialism.

How its made is not the problem. Its how much you consume. This is a classic example that Short on brains has NO IDEA what hes talking about!

Or, they could begin by banning dangerous corn oil, vegetable oil, canola oil and margarine.

is this the Big Mac Theory Shorten is on about

The Australian government created the obesity epidemic. Let's watch it hysterically fail tackling it.

Hmm. Yet another ALP policy with no costs or details but a vague, feel-good vibe. Fortunately for them, idiots are forced to vote Auspol

Haha ha

Liebor going to control jobs, what we eat, drive, live.... sounds communism 101

How about teaching people how to control their own mouths?

How about people control themselves ffs

😂😂😂😂😂, yeah good on you Labor, big brother gone fucking mad. No one will supply anything to us.

Beyond belief. Could be Monty Python.

Labor has no idea. Them and their ridiculous promises. Recipes? What about policy costings first auspol19 ausvotes Australia

Just shame people into losing weight. That's the super secret behind why Asians are all thin. They fat shame relentlessly lol

But their welfare policies encourage people to be like the picture! Just say’n!

Labor is on an endless spendathon: Sharma | Sky News AustraliaLiberal candidate for Wentworth Dave Sharma says his party is committed to providing the best childcare for Australians but says ‘I don’t think we should be out there trying to match Labor in its spendathon’. \n\nLabor has this week drawn criticism for announcing a $4 billion childcare plan but not revealing how it will fund the social initiative. \n\nMr Sharma questioned the funding pledge, telling Sky News ‘Labor just keeps announcing more money for everything but doesn't address where they’re getting the money from, what’s going to happen to people’s taxes, or how the economy’s going to stomach this significant burden’. \n\nThe Liberal candidate says ‘people would always like to see more generous social services, but the key to that is a strong economy with low unemployment, good wage growth and good economic growth because only then do you have the balance sheet to underwrite these social initiatives’. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n * and we at sky will do our best to get him over the line * He's absolutely right.
