No jobs will be lost in the privatisation of Adelaide's trains, the South Australian Government says, after awarding the $2.14 billion contract to a Downer Group venture despite the criticism it drew over fabricated political quotes last year.

to the Government included fake quotes attributed to both himself and Labor MP Stephen Mullighan.

"These might be helpful," the group's manager of government partnerships Sasha Grebe wrote, before detailing a series of quotes attributed to Mr Koutsantonis and Mr Mullighan when they were frontbenchers in 2014.and appeared to be drawn from an April Fools' Day newspaper article — state the former Labor government was considering a partial privatisation of rail services.

The Rail, Tram and Bus Union today said questions remained about the "integrity of the privatisation process" and criticised the Government for pushing ahead with privatisation despite its pre-election promises to the contrary.

How ridiculous. How many essential services have we privatised and ended up worse off Electricity? Toll roads? Buses? Hospitals? Banks? GIO? QANTAS? Water? Ports? Quarantine hotels as a contemporary comparison.

Downer Chinese owned.

Because privatising essential services always works out better for the consumer. It allows everyone to become a shareholder. Of course, when the state owns the thing everyone already IS a shareholder, but hey-ho. Profits must be made. Pockets must be lined. It'll be fine.

Because when you want to make things more expensive, why not?

But WHY

A public asset handed over to a conglomerate to operate. That makes sense.

Wednesday, August 26, Berejiklian said at a media conference, “Australia and New South Wales are not good at building trains, that’s why we have to purchase them.”
