Michael McCormack may have fended off a challenge from Barnaby Joyce but that won’t do much to quash the former Nationals leader's long-term leadership ambitions, according to Political Reporter Trudy McIntosh.

Michael McCormack may have fended off a challenge from Barnaby Joyce but that won’t do much to quash the former Nationals leader's long-term leadership ambitions, according to Political Reporter Trudy McIntosh.

A spill for the leadership was called on Tuesday morning after Bridget McKenzie’s resignation as deputy leader created a vacuum for Mr Joyce to mount a challenge. While Scott Morrison has yet to comment on the outcome of the vote, earlier he told reporters the Coalition would remain strong no matter the leadership make up. Image: News Corp Australia
