British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will pull his Brexit withdrawal agreement bill and push for a general election if MPs vote against a timetable to push it through Parliament.

Mr Johnson said if the timetable is voted down in the House of Commons on Tuesday night and the European Union allows a delay on the October 31 Brexit date, the Government would seek a general election.

"If Parliament refuses to allow Brexit to happen and instead gets its way and decides to delay everything until January or possibly longer, in no circumstances can the Government continue with this … and with great regret the bill will have to be pulled," Mr Johnson said.

Tom Brake, the Liberal Democrats' Brexit spokesman, said that MPs"should not be bullied into voting in favour of this ridiculously short timetable". "The Tory government's threat to pull the Withdrawal Agreement Bill, if they lose the vote on their rushed timetable, is childish blackmail," he told the BBC.

Mr Johnson would need at least two-thirds of MPs to approve a snap election, something he failed to achieve during his last bid to do so at the beginning of last month.

An early election is something the Labour Party, the Scottish Nationalists and the Liberal Democrats are all trying to avoid as it would mean large scale electral losses. Bring it on!

If you want an example of political elitism, if you want an example of the disconnect between a people and their so called elected representatives, if you want an example of all that is wrong with western democracy, you need look no further than the UK Parliament. Brexit

More Johnson chaos

That and the referendum to get rid of Brexit are probably the only ways this can be resolved.

Good

This is spin. If MPs won't agree to his ultra-short timetable for the Brexit Bill, it means Boris will have to accept an extension to the Brexit deadline beyond his promised October 31. That's what he trying to hide.

What a mess

The most important issue Britain has faced since the Second World War and the Speaker rules it is repetitive and disorderly to vote on it. Can the House vote on whether the Speaker is a twit or a knob? brexit Interesting ruling from the Speaker. There was no substantive vote yes or no on Brexit last Saturday, so he's not allowing one now. He also quit as Speaker a few weeks ago, but changed his mind 10 days ago. This mess should be resolved by a General Election, but that's not on.

Last-ditch bid to delay WA voluntary euthanasia laws in face of Government warningsWA's voluntary assisted dying bill is at risk of being heavily delayed, with a push underway in the Upper House to put a final vote on hold until well into 2020. Hospitals will only give a certain amount of pain medication. They won’t give you enough to be pain free because they worry it might kill you & result in lawsuits. There is no such thing as a pain free death. I support voluntary euthanasia. I support the right to choice wapol The pro lifers should allow others to have a choice. It's a law that gives people the right to decide. If you choose pain killers, it's your choice. If you choose to end the pain, it's your choice. I don't understand why people are against this.
