The big-name star has already acted in the famous play but will now co-write an adaption of the Shakespeare classic, while staring in it too. 9News

Timothée Chalamet transforms from wayward Prince Hal to King Henry V.

"When we first started writing [the script], there was a vague idea that potentially I would [play Henry]. But as we did our research we were like, I'm just too old to play that character and Hal was 26 when he became king," reasons Edgerton. "So it just felt to us like we need to put a young person on the throne because visually it's going to be so stunning to watch a boy king surrounded by these grown up men — these sharks that had their own agenda.

"There was even a phase when we were writing the film where I just figured that I might not be in the movie at all," he admits. "I'll just write it and produce it and be a part of it, and the Falstaff thing came up later."It's a good thing Edgerton decided to stay on for his portrayal of disgraced English knight Sir John Falstaff — Prince Hal's closest friend and ally — anchored the movie.

"It was a lot of eating of food. Basically, I put on 25kg while I was in post production of the film I directed," Edgerton tells 9Honey. "So I was basically sitting in the edit room just eating double amounts of food every day. With that transformation, I had the luxury of growing a beard for six months. It kind of got very woolly and curly… [But] the accent was a big thing.
