Review: IKEA offers some of the cheapest and most versatile smart lights available, although getting started can be a bit daunting

Late last year IKEA quietly introduced a range of smart lights to its Australian stores. The Tradfri range of downlights, LED bench lights and globes are some of the cheapest and most versatile smart lights available, but getting started with Ikea lighting — much like assembling its flat pack furniture — can be daunting.

To get started you'll need IKEA's Tradfri bridge , at least one light, and a driving device like the remote . I find the remote hideous but the dimmer is charmingly minimal; just a tiny little set of white disks that twist together to dim the lights. The dimmer or remote can then connect to up to 10 Tradfri bulbs, so one device could potentially cover an entire house. But adding a physical switch into the smart home mix is really welcomed, allowing you to adjust the lights by hand when you’d rather not be yelling at smart speakers, so I ended up buying one dimmer per room.

Connecting the gateway and lights is as cumbersome as setting up any smart home system; no one has really figured out a good way to do this.

Most Australian aged care facilities would get one-star rating for staffing, royal commission toldMore than half of Australian nursing homes are understaffed, with residents having less access to qualified nurses than ever before, the aged care royal commission hears. Nationalise it. Guarantee it. final report out-rather die of cancer then go into aged care One day I am going to get old and will need care. I'd prefer to carry euthanasia pack/kit on me. If the facility is short staffed, I better do something to ease my pain and not live. It'd be hard to watch nurses working under pressure as well.
