Tougher privacy laws will be put to Parliament next week in a bid to jail anyone who breaches the safeguards in the COVIDSafe app, with police and security agencies exposed to the sanctions

Tougher privacy laws will be put to Parliament next week in a bid to jail anyone who breaches the safeguards in the federal government’s new coronavirus tracing app, with police and security agencies exposed to the sanctions.

The Morrison government wants the new penalties, including a $63,000 fine for every privacy breach, to assuage concerns about the app and expand its use beyond the 4.5 million people who have already downloaded it to their phones. The nation’s existing privacy authority, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, will have the power to hear complaints about privacy breaches and refer them to the Australian Federal Police.

Does anyone know whether ASIO and/or Dept Home Affairs are allowed access to the data?

Tougher privacy laws to anyone who breaches the safeguards in the COVIDSafe app? COVIDSafe app- the new NORM globally In the midst of pandemic--iotex_io value your data, identity, and privacy.

Will the AFP be independently investigating itself? Hasn’t proven terribly independent on Angus Taylor’s ‘breaches’ ....

There are already government departments who quietly breach all human and privacy rights of people they study for their own benefit and the harm of their victims. They publish their illegal malicious finding and call it a theory

Get to the bottom as to why they are so on about this App, it's not been praised internationally, It was designed for Singapore use, and they are going absolutely out of their way to 'Recruit' people to download it, like a shonky sales manager desperate to meet his targets

Wouldn't you normally put the safeguards in place pre launch? Am sure work cover would be okay with you putting up the pool fencing a few weeks after filling the pool.

Do whatever you like to convince people..if pandemic itself not enough nothing will..cynical people will find some other excuse NOT to download it

It's all B.S., we have a weak government who can't do anything right.

But whenever the police get involved with the lnp they just drop the charges.

Another good reason to not download this crap!

I don’t care. Will never download this spy software.

Fake news.

There’s a difference using WhatsApp etc and being spied upon by govt agencies Legally, you can fight. Can’t fight this though. You download it, you’ve granted them a legal right to spy on you

Even more comforting that they think criminals will obeys the laws. Especially those outside of their jurisdiction. Say no to government monitoring.

What a stupid app to have ! It's just a government tracker people WAKE UP

Huh? But isn’t it totally safe and voluntary?

Who in this corrupt government cares about regulations?RubyDutton CrimeMinister ScottyFromMarketing auspol

Gaol for Amazon too? 🤔..What a turn off.. trust this LNP government?

Over half the population won’t use the app because they don’t trust the government , yet the government enjoys a solid majority. 🤔

What about politicians?

🙄

That's good, but in the same way that people will game the app, officials will abuse it.

COVID-19 could to be lurking within community for 'up to' two years | Sky News AustraliaA leading professor of microbiology has warned Australians are going to have to be on their guard for the foreseeable future since COVID-19 will be lurking within the community for at least 'the next six months to two years.'\n\nInfectious Diseases Physician Professor Peter Collignon told Sky News said the key to keeping COVID-19 manageable is stopping 'droplet transmission.'\n\n'This is mainly spread by droplets, people who have got mild infections, coughing or sneezing, touching their hands and contaminating surfaces,' he said.\n\n'We are going to have to work out how we stop what we stop droplet transmission and that is actually washing our hands, keeping 1.5 metres away from each other as much as possible.\n\n'By doing that we are really decreasing the risk so it is very low.'\n\nAustralia has been extremely successful at flattening the rate of infection, with only 18 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the nation on Sunday the 3rd of May.\n\nThere are now only 878 active cases across Australia.\n\nHe said while there will likely be a second wave of transmission in winter, Professor Collignon said it will likely be a 'ripple instead of a tsunami.'\n\n'It is likely in winter we will see more cases than we see now,' he said.\n\n'We know what we have to do to stop this spreading, and so if we get a second wave, if we keep on doing what we are doing, we can make it a little ripple and not a tsunami.\n\n'While we will have clusters, and we will have some spread, we will be able to keep it under control and not be anything like we are seeing on television.\n\n'We will be much closer to Korea than we will be to New York.'\n\n\n CollignonPeter I reckon everyone is so well aware as there are experts popping up everywhere 24/7 telling us. CollignonPeter bullshit CollignonPeter How long will China be lurking for?
