New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has named September 19 as the date Kiwis will go to the polls for the country's next general election, beginning a monster 235-day election campaign

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has named September 19 as the date Kiwis will go to the polls for the country's next general election, beginning a monster 235-day election campaign.

He faces a tough task, given Ardern's polling stranglehold as preferred prime minister, New Zealand's relatively strong economy and the electorate's preference for stability – in stark contrast to the past 15 years in Australian politics.Advertisement Bridges was quick to respond to Ardern's announcement, saying infrastructure delays showed "Labour and Jacinda Ardern can't deliver".

In 2017 then-prime minister Bill English was all smiles on election night, declaring victory after National won more than 44 per cent of the vote to be clearly the biggest party in Parliament. The Prime Minister has pledged to run a "positive, factual and robust" campaign, fighting the spread of misinformation online and submitting Labour's policies for independent costing.Ardern dismissed the notion that the 235-day election campaign would fatigue Kiwis, saying it was best practice to have a date set long in advance.

New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern announces September 19 electionNew Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern calls an election for September 19, it is one that will test her popularity heavily due to the country facing economic issues. I guess that ends any hope of further bi-partisanship until then. She promised us the world and delivered none of her promises, sooner she’s gone the better. If she loses perhaps she can denounce her NZ citizenship and run in Australia.
