Three Melbourne residents fly to New Zealand despite the coronavirus outbreak in Victoria, reportedly to attend a funeral, and end up forced to spend two weeks in a managed isolation facility.

Three Melbourne residents have been caught trying to get into New Zealand during Victoria's coronavirus lockdown. All three have returned negative "day zero" testsAustralia and New Zealand still have a travel bubble arrangement in place, but travel from Victoria

New Zealand director general of health Ashley Bloomfield, told a press conference on Wednesday that the three drove from Melbourne to Sydney and then flew to Auckland last week.were going to attend a funeral and they would have to pay for their quarantine stay"Those three people were identified when they arrived and were immediately transferred to a managed isolation facility in Auckland where they will remain for a 14-day period," Dr Bloomfield said.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the episode demonstrated that even when people were making "a deliberate attempt to get through" the mechanisms in place would pick them up. "For anyone considering breaching the rules that we have in place, you see in this case the family has been picked up and they have been put into a managed isolation facility, so there are consequences," Ms Ardern said.A spokesperson for the Australian Department of Home Affairs said: "The Department of Home Affairs is not the right department to respond to your question".

fining healthy people... fascism at its finest

NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO THEM ,,HENCE WHY THE COVID KEEPS GOING AROUND THE STATES

Who is letting these people fly

They fucking better be.

The 3 will not pay their quarantine costs, will not be fined and will fly back from the Bros funeral without any repercussions

jot_au And if Qld goes into lockdown, & our travel bubble ‘bursts’ too I hope there are some serious consequences as well

As they should, grubs.

You the police now Jacinta? Watch your own backyard

How about a weekend at ScottyFromDamageControl’s joint. He gets someone to endlessly lecture, they get cruel & unusual punishment to help clarify in their minds what further lockdowns might feel like.

What about addressing that Scott Morrison and home affairs woman is going to deport the Tamil family to NZ or USA. Whilst family has been locked up on Xmas Island for 2 or 3 years no reason. They have a hm in Bioela and kids are citizens of Aus. Govt are cruel to this family.

And then we have that idiot who left Melbourne during lockdown, travelled across three states to end up testing positive to covid in QLD. I understand they are sick of lockdowns, but breaching the lockdown needs some serious punishment to stop people doing it.

Good

Excellent.

Throw away the key....

They left because they wanted to attend a funeral. Probably thought the consequences were worth it if it worked

The absolute contempt that these politicians are treating their constituents is disgusting. If they did their jobs, Australian and NZ residents would be vaccinated. And all you idiots just accept their ineptitude

Selfish aholes

Do they not check peoples identities at the sydney airport or ? SydneyAirport

They have to go to parliament and listen to them for 2 hours

Mrs ed

This is why we can't have nice things. Total fwits.

We need cameras that can identify interstate numberplates on major roads and at petrol stations and alert NSW Police during times when covid is present in other states jacindaardern

Just send them to your friend China then.

Hey Jacinta, fuck off!

A common answer to my questions! 'The Department of Home Affairs is not the right department to respond to your question'. makePMV300exempt from travel restrictions! 457 days separated is just wrong!

Shameful. They’ve let down Victoria.

I’m hoping the consequences are thousands of dollars in fines and expenses to these wilful people

Perhaps don't let them come back ?

And there's no flights from MEL NZ for a few weeks, so did they travel illegally to SYD first?

There should be consequences, I support this.

And this perceived entitlement by some is a stark example as to why many of us here in Victoria, abiding by the public health rules and advice, are so very fatigued and frustrated.

Yes current NZ PM seems to be a genuinely friendly, fair, & firm PM.

Covid case detected on QLD coastBREAKING: A Melbourne couple have sparked a Covid scare in Queensland after the pair escaped lockdown and one tested positive on the Sunshine Coast. So selfish State of Emergency ends June 29th in QLD. I am no conspiracy theorist but several of people I know are and predicted this would happen not long before SOE ends. Let's see how it plays out. Surely the fact that the State of Emergency ending on June 29th in QLD, has nothing to do with this?
