The Berejiklian Government says it is on a mission to change the culture on NSW roads by permanently setting up cameras to detect motorists using mobile phones. The State Government said 100,000 of the 85 million drivers checked during a trial were found to be using their phones illegallyIt is spending $88 million on fixed and portable cameras, which will be placed at 45 spots across the state.
The State Government said during the trial people were detected people using Facebook, texting, and in one instance a passenger had their passenger steer the car while they had both hands on their phone.
I think NSW is beginning like countries who forbid everything regarding freedom of choice. Don't kid the NSW public it is not revenue, shows how us it is not true. Oh Oh. Just like states of this country trying to put the wool over NSW public eyes.
What an absolute joke and noone even cares? 12 people have died in 5 years out of millions of daily drivers and they are spending almost $100 million on this? Photographs are kept for 48 hours! You don't think is as well as revenue raising surveillance too?
Yeah right
Pretty simple solution to not contribute to the “revenue”
It will save many lives, so well worth it, although somebody is making a crap ton of money out of camera tech.
Ka-Ching 'it's not about revenue' Ka-Ching, Ka-Ching Ka-Ching. Then why is it in the budget?'
Not an issue with me. Put your phones away and it won’t effect you. To many people on their phones and killing people.
Its about balancing the budget and giving MPs pay rises
Of course it is
Couldn’t care less if it’s revenue raising or not. Having almost been run off the road several times by people texting (yes, I know they’re texting because they’re still texting when you go around them!) I welcome any deterrent.
Great idea, every state should introduce these. Speed cameras are a waste of time, far too many idiots driving around with their eyes on their mobile phones when it should be on the road.
Bullshit.
Yeah M4 was never about revnue either. Bold face liars.
No problem here. Phone use is everywhere and dangerous
I’m actually totally okay with people being fined stupid amounts of money for being on their phone while driving.
Yeah fines go in the REVENUE column.
In that case use the money to reduce taxes.
Wow! It's like I've never ever ever heard that one before. BrandNewDay /sarc
Even if it does make money, it's a tax that's easy to avoid. Leave your phone alone, you pay nothing. As a bonus, you're safer on the road too.
The definition of government in modern times is centred on; maintaining inefficiencies in the running of government (internally), creation of unnecessary bureaucracy, self interest and revenue generation - period.
Bull-shit all to pay your public servants and politicians. Graft and corruption disguised.
Well, they've lost most of our exporting revenue. Where else do they have to turn to for revenue, apart from their own citizens
everybody knows it is about rev
Do not believe you. Smash those cameras
It is about revenue don't insult our intelligence
NSW gov is addicted to traffic fines so they r investing millions to get more revenues They must be hitting d jackpot as they r splashing more money for speed cameras AI n mobile detection etc Just day light robbery
Don't like it? Having a bleat about 'revenue raising'? Then don't break the law & endanger yourself and others by being a moron using your phone while driving. Simples.
If it’s really not about revenue, why not just issue demerit points for the offence?
It’s a shame they even need to defend it.
Over a million per camera and its not about revenue. Plse.
Bullshit
🤣😂🇦🇺🦘
Don’t really care but lies lies lies.
It's NEVER about revenue. ESPECIALLY when it's about revenue.
Yes it is.
